St James' Race Team - Cycling

We are pleased to announce that St James’ Anglican School will be the home of a Western Australia’s first school-based academy for sports cycling. Recreational and competitive cycling will be offered in both curricular and co-curricular activities.  A cycle path has been planned within the school grounds.

The focus in lower primary will be developing confidence and skills in recreational cycling for both students and parents. St James’ is also currently negotiating with land developers and the City of Wanneroo for suitable paths and signage within Alkimos Beach to enable safe ride-to-school infrastructure.

The focus for upper primary will be developing the competencies for both road cycling and competitive racing.

Those with a passion for the sport will be invited to join the St James’ Racing Team (SJRT).  SJRT will train adjacent to the school grounds (initially two mornings per week immediately prior to school).  Parent help is greatly appreciated.  The Youth Squad of Northern Beaches Cycling Club will join the SJRT in training sessions.  Competitions are held across the metropolitan area, with short course races (Criterium) occurring over the hotter months, and road races throughout the year. SJRT will be eligible to compete at state, national and international level.

St James’ Cycling Academy requires sponsors and supporters to help fund cycling uniforms, bicycles, and transportation.  Your support in identifying sponsorship sources is greatly appreciated.

If you are excited at the news of the cycling focus at St James’ you are welcome to ride with Northern Beaches Cycling Club who offer social, recreational and competitive rides. They welcome novice riders and love to help riders build their confidence, at their own pace.

If you are considering purchasing bicycles, Bikeforce Clarkson will be the supplier for the Academy and will give discounts and expert advice for St James’ families.
