I hope your children are feeling adventurous in the coming years. We have some great news!
Being part of a system of schools can have some outstanding benefits regarding access to some unbelievable resources. In recent times, I have been heavily involved in helping steer the direction of the newly branded, Swan Valley Adventure Centre.
This facility will utilise the existing resources that stand at the Swanleigh Boarding House in Middle Swan as the foundations for what we hope will become the best outdoor adventure centre in Western Australia.
With a huge pocket of land available, the site is already well underway with the construction of state of the art adventure activities. These include the largest high ropes course that I have seen, a commando course, flying fox, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, camp kitchen cooking, mountain biking and a frightening leap of faith trapeze jump.
This project is a joint venture between the Anglican Schools Commission and the Perth Diocese.
The initiative will see all of our ASC Schools given priority and reduced rates to book the facilities, and cement the skills into the fabric of our students’ development as they pass through St James’. The activities will be sequenced at age appropriate levels of challenge to help develop resilience and leadership in our students.
Having been involved in the outdoor education industry for more than 20 years, both in Australia and the United Kingdom, I have a personal interest in seeing this develop as I know how beneficial experiential learning can be with building independence and resilience.
Watch this space as we develop our camp program to help align with my vision for students who will graduate Year 12 with the idea that they can achieve anything.
