Welcome back to the penultimate term for 2016. It has been an exciting month at St James’ with so much going on. The Stage 2 building, which will complete our double-stream Primary School will be finished in early November. We are hoping to move into the building in mid-November, with furniture arriving shortly afterwards. I am hoping that some members of our parent body may be willing to help with this exciting transition.
You may also notice that at the rear of the Stage 1B Block there is significant building activity. The area is being prepared for our Year 7 and 8 students with the construction of a purpose built recreation region. Terraced retaining walls, paved areas, decks, basketball hoops and large Norfolk Island Pines will sit amongst a tranquil grass setting. This area was designed in conjunction with students, and should serve the older students with a spill out space that reflects their growing maturity. Slowly we are pushing our structures into the other half of the site.
Meanwhile, you will notice a Nature-play facility emerging at the west end of the new building. This will give our students exposure to some more natural play equipment, rather than all of the plastic that we currently have. This option provides students with a choice as to what to do with themselves at break time. Above the new play area will be large shade sails that will provide a sheltered environment overlooking the Indian Ocean. Life is so difficult for our students sometimes!
The Family Fun Day in Term 3 was such an important event in the history of our School. This fabulous day was a reflection of how strong our community can be when we all take the time out to engage with each other. My sincere thanks goes to both the committee, and the community who embraced the event. I have never been so proud as to see people meeting people, helping people and interacting with others for the benefit of our community. The funds will be allocated to a needy cause in the coming weeks in consultation with several key stakeholders.
I hope the new facilities are in keeping with the overall plan that was uncovered when you first enrolled at St James’. The continued growth is something that will ensure we can keep delivering on a sustainable economic future. I look forward to seeing you around the grounds.
