Our Identity

Our Vision

As centres of excellence in teaching and learning, pastoral care, worship, and service, the Schools of the Anglican Schools Commission (Inc.) are distinctively Christian communities, fulfilling the Gospel imperative to teach the faith and nurture the young.

Our Core Purpose

To establish and maintain a low-fee Anglican school, which will provide a high quality, inclusive, caring Christian education.

Our Mission

St James’ Anglican School will seek to provide excellence in education, stressing high academic standards and the development of individual potential in a dynamic, caring and Christian environment.

Our Core Values

FAITH by living the Gospel values, acting with honesty and openness, and celebrating difference and inclusion

WISDOM through the pursuit of knowledge, lifelong learning and high standards and expectations

SERVICE by demonstrating fairness, empathy for others, and respect for self, others and our world

The purpose of a Church school is to foster growth in character and develop a set of values and skills, by teaching and example in a Christian setting, through all the activities of school life.

The aims of our School are:

  • To stimulate an awareness and understanding of our spiritual nature and our Christian heritage
  • To provide, in a caring environment, a broad-based education which emphasizes development of literacy and numeracy skills and the striving for excellence so that each student may be encouraged to develop to his/her maximum potential
  • To develop inquiring and flexible minds and an attitude to life which involves a sense of direction, a positive self-concept, and the personal resources with which to lead a full life
  • To encourage and develop qualities of respect for others, self-discipline, self-motivation and commitment and resilience
  • To develop a system of pastoral care based on Christian beliefs and values and involving all staff and students at every level of the School community

To provide a framework enabling a sense of community to pervade all aspects of school life, and allowing for the development of a community of students, staff and parents in positive collaboration.

Visual Identity

The shield of the School Crest which envelopes the shell and the cross, was chosen for its clean modern style, one which evokes the traditions of an heraldic shield but without the design flourishes which can be seen on older crests.

The mitre surmounts the shield, symbolic of the Holy Spirit whose tongues of fire settled on the heads of Jesus’ Apostles [including St James] at Pentecost. The mitre is only worn by Bishops, in the Christian tradition. As ‘episcope’ or overseers, Bishops are symbols of unity within their Diocese and from one Diocese to another. The three intertwining strands on the mitre of the St James’ Anglican School crest, are taken from and used with the kind permission of the former Archbishop, Roger Herft – they represent the three rivers flowing through the three Dioceses in which he has served as Bishop: the Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand, the Hunter in Newcastle, New South Wales and the Swan in Perth, Western Australia.

The motto for St James’ Anglican School is WISDOM FAITH SERVICE and it reflects the following:

Wisdom – deep knowledge and understanding; and how to best apply it

Faith – in God; the faith of the Church; faith in one another; the journey of faith

Service – to others above self; being bold yet humble; a servant to all

The colours of St James’ Anglican School crest are Royal Blue and Orange – colours which have an association with St James and which will provide a distinctive uniform for the students of St James’ Anglican School in the northern suburbs of Perth and among their peers at ASC and WAASA schools.

The Grace

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
The love of God

And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
Be with us all, now and forever.

School Hymn

I, the Lord of sea of sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin
my hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them.

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide
till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

School Prayer

Dear God,

We pray for all staff and students in our School.

Give us the wisdom to learn with openness and integrity.

The faith to do your will in mind and body.

The courage to serve others and ourselves.

May we, like St James, have the willingness to continue growing in knowledge, faith and love.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
