Click! The first shot was taken as the Year 6’s embarked on their overseas trip to Rottnest Island. They boarded the ferry at Hillary’s Boat Harbour, excited yet somewhat nervous. It wasn’t long before the sick bags emerged. ‘Chop’, ‘chop’, ‘chop’ thrashed the waves against the boat. Many of us were feeling dizzy and faint, but this was all part of the adventure.
We grabbed the bikes and weaved our way through the rustic township of Rottnest. Eventually, we found ourselves at Kingston Barracks, our home for the Camp. We quickly bonded with our groups and throughout the stay we participated in the following activities:
- Oliver Hill Tour
- Wadjemup Light House
- Visits to numerous beaches including Pinky Beach
- Snorkelling activities
- The Adventure Race
- Bike Adventures
During the evenings we participated in a Minute to Win-it Challenge and even went to the movies! A random Quokka joined us as we watched the film ‘The Missing Link’. Each day was actioned packed and we were well rewarded with a home cooked meal. Students took turns to assist in the management of the dinner hall. Throughout the Camp, students developed a sense of responsibility, understanding towards others and grew immensely in their resilience.
The Camp drew to a close with an historical tour of the Island and some free time to connect with friends. On our return, parents greeted their children with open arms, ready for a restful weekend. A missing sock still remains in Miss McKernan’s classroom!
