Delicious, Nutritious, Homemade & Healthy
St James’ aims to provide our school with a healthy and ‘fun’ canteen with varied food and drink options. Our School is now registered with the Western Australia School Canteen Association (WASCA), and we are working closely with the Department of Education to implement and maintain a Healthy Food and Drinks Policy. Our tasty menu encourages our students to make healthy choice options. Food warmers and coolers ensure students have the options of both warm and cold selections.
Online Ordering
We have a user-friendly online ordering system called FlexiSchools. This system allows parents or students to place orders from home, work or school via computer or mobile phone at any time up until 8.00am in the morning. The payment is made online, so you no longer need to send a paper order to school. It is important to note that the Canteen no longer accepts cash payments for orders. As well as being convenient for parents, online orders are more accurate and much faster for the Canteen to process. FlexiSchools is well established and tested, operating in hundreds of schools across Australia.
Getting online is easy and only takes a second to register. Simply go to www.flexischools.com.au and click “Register Now”. You will be sent an email with further instructions on how to complete the registration. Once registered, you can start placing orders immediately. Each order incurs a 25c ordering fee. If you have any questions, FlexiSchools provide a great help desk on 1300 361 769, or you can contact them via their website.
There are a variety of payment options supported, including Visa, Mastercard (credit and debit), Bank Transfer and Payclick. The system operates via a pre-paid account, so you don’t need to scrounge for coins in the morning and can easily budget for your canteen spending throughout the term.
Daily specials can be found on the FlexiSchools site www.flexischools.com.au
Nut Awareness
As St James’ Anglican School is a ‘nut aware’ school, this is incorporated into the Canteen Policy. Other food intolerances/allergies have been taken into consideration (e.g. gluten free options, vegetarian, etc).
Interesting Facts:
Did you know? In the United States, a kilo of potato chips costs two hundred times more than a kilo of potatoes! Proves to eat ‘healthy’ is not only beneficial for us long term, but also financially!
Café Follows ‘Traffic Light System
The Western Australian School Canteen Association Inc. (WASCA) states, “food and drinks classified ‘GREEN’ in the ‘traffic light’ system are recommended for everyday consumption. The majority of what is offered on a canteen or food service menu should be from the ‘GREEN’ section and these should be promoted as the healthiest choices. A MINIMUM of 60% of all foods, drinks and snacks offered by the canteen must come from ‘GREEN’ choices. Food and drinks in the ‘AMBER’ category in the ‘traffic light’ system are not recommended as ‘every day’ choices and their availability to students should be limited. NOT MORE THAN 40% of foods, drinks and snacks offered can be ‘AMBER’ products. Food and drinks in the third column are categorised as ‘RED’ in the ‘traffic light’ system and are not permitted in WA public school canteens or food services.
We look forward to healthier choice options in lunch boxes in the future
